The Pennsylvania Head Start Association has partnered with Aetna Better Health of Pennsylvania, the only statewide managed care organization in Pennsylvania, to produce a Latino Edition of a new cookbook, My Family’s Plate. This new collaboration will give every Head Start program across the state an opportunity to engage families in hands-on cooking programming which will highlight traditional Latino meals with a healthy twist. Locally recruited community chefs will be trained to introduce recipes from the new, culturally-informed cookbook. By creating modeling opportunities by trained community chefs, the program will promote, educate, and engage families in preparing traditional meals in a healthy way! This programming aims to create ongoing dialogue about health challenges facing minority families and opportunities that promote how families can address those issues through healthy eating using foods that are already a part of their culture.
