On March 1, 2019, The National Farm to School Network started a series of blogposts that recognized the work that early learning sites are doing to ensure the children and families in their care have access to healthy, locally-sourced foods. One such blogpost focused on The Caring Center, an early care program in West Philadelphia. Chef Erica Lewis and her kitchen staff are committed to serving healthy, home-cooked meals. By partnering with The Common Market, a nonprofit local food distributor, Erica is able to provide those healthy meals and meet the nutritional needs of the children in her care. To find out how Chef Lewis and The Caring Center are able to make local sourcing work for them, go here.
